We the People Demand the Right to Life Through

Single-Payer Healthcare

Welcome!

Filmmakers Kenny Ballentine (they/them) & Maddy Purves (she/her) created the Healing US Network shortly after releasing their documentary, Healing US (2023).

The network is meant to be a gathering place for anyone and everyone who believes healthcare is a human right. The film powerfully illustrates that the time is right and America is ready to heal. More that 70% of Americans support single payer healthcare, but the real tipping point wont occure unless we all come together and get involoved.

Please explore this website, get to know our amazing partners and find out what is happening in your state.

Get involved in your state

These states each have their own state based health reform efforts.

Find your state's active bills & initiatives, leading organizations, and/or volunteer & donation forms. If you don’t see your organization listed, reach out—We want you to join us, too!

The Healing US Network is a virtual hub for all healthcare advocates to gather, rally, share news, and support each other across state & party lines.

  • We believe in the healing power of stories.

Healing US is narrated by Susan Sarandon, starring as the voice of Lady Liberty herself, who pleads with the American people to reject the currently corporatized status quo and to unite under the common cause of healing ourselves and our country through universal healthcare.

Featuring the powerful voices of former Cigna executive Wendell Potter (PA), conservatives like Dr. Joseph Q. Jarvis (UT-R/I), families with horror stories of lost loved ones such as Amy Vilela (NV-D) and Scott Desnoyers (NY), political powerhouses like Briahna Joy Gray (DC) and Dr. Victoria Dooley (MI), and many, many more, Healing US is fully equipped to change the hearts and minds of Americans across state and party lines.

The other story of Healing US is that of the Red Berets for Medicare for All, a group of self-identified “craftivists” for healthcare. Starting in Washignton state, the Red Berets have grown to become one of the strongest, solidarity-centered voices for single-payer healthcare, with the mission to inspire everyone to activism—by sewing, knitting, drawing, and crocheting red berets!

  • Notice the number of states represented in our film and on this site…

The Healing US Network was made by the documentary team after finishing the film and realizing its potential as a resource for advocacy awareness and organizing.

Our idea is that groups & individuals from all over the country will be able to work together by: using our film as a strong, story-based starting point for dialogue; share information & policy/legislative tactics, and eventually; collaborate with state-based initiatives in multiple states at once—at the same time, supporting federal policy—forcing the opposition to spread resources and ideally, make mistakes.

  • Watch Healing US and share it with everyone you know.

Reject the notion that Americans are divided on this issue.

Find and follow local single-payer advocacy groups and support their work—by donating, or better, by attending rallies, contacting your representatives, and voting.

Encourage your local city, county, state & national groups to join the Healing US Network and to use Healing US as a tool for organizing events and gathering activists.

Continue to openly discuss single-payer healthcare as the only solution for America’s healthcare crisis.

the Red Berets for Medicare for All

The red beret is a sign of solidarity amongst all advocates for healthcare for all. Started by Laura Fielding, one of the voices in Healing US, the idea behind the Red Berets is that anyone can join the fight for healthcare—as a “craftivist” on your couch at home, as someone wearing the beret in marches of any intersectional political justice movement, or as digital activists with a platform for spreading accurate information and messages of hope.

Activists from Washington can show support state-based movements in California, Massachussets, Ohio, New York, and simultaneously for federal policy!

Order a handmade, knitted or crocheted beret from Laura or one of the many volunteer craftivists from across the country and wear it at your next march!

Medicare For All

At the Federal Level

On May 17, 2023, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Rep. Debbie Dingell, and Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced the Medicare for All Act in the U.S. House (H.R. 3421) and U.S. Senate (S. 1655)
